Tiffany Crate, Book Club Chairman

Tiffany Crate, M.S., C.P.T., has been the owner and director of TLC Fitness Consulting in Chicago for 15 years. Ms. Crate earned a Master of Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2004, she was named the “Coach of the Year” by the Association of Fitness By Phone® Coaches. In addition to coaching thousands of individuals, Ms. Crate has taught Clinical Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Wellness and Weight Loss, Strength Training, Cardiorespiratory Conditioning, and Swimming at some of Chicagoland’s most prestigious learning institutions, including the Chicago National College of Naprapathy, North Central College in Naperville, and the University of Illinois School of Kinesiology. A biomechanics specialist, Ms. Crate teaches medical students at the University of Illinois at Chicago how to perform the musculoskeletal exam and how to properly interview patients. She also served as an exercise consultant to CBS Channel 2 News Health and Medical Department in 1996.
As a leader in the health and fitness industry, Ms. Crate is Chicago’s premier Intuitive Eating Coach, teaching individuals how to permanently break free from “dieting and deprivation backlash,” empower themselves to eat satisfying foods that carry them for 3-4 hours, and settle at their natural weight.
Ms. Crate is certified by the American Council on Exercise as both a personal fitness trainer and a group fitness instructor. She was named one of Chicago’s Top 50 Women in Sports, 1997, by Windy City Sports magazine. As a Guest Fitness Instructor to the Superclubs and Sandals resort corporations, Ms. Crate teaches at various resorts in the Caribbean. Ms. Crate produced and starred in her first retail exercise video, Nothing But Legs, in 1999 and has made multiple appearances in television, video, and print work.
A passionate free lance writer, Ms. Crate’s health and fitness column The Good Life, appeared for six years in the River North News and is now a publication of TLC Fitness Consulting, available on her web site, www.tlcfitness.net. Her articles also have been published in the Strength and Conditioning journal, Fitness Trainer Update, and The Encyclopedia of Chicago.
An avid animal-lover, Ms. Crate volunteers as a dog-walker at Chicago Animal Care and Control (ACC), and participates in the annual PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) “Run For Their Lives” fundraiser race. She also participates in annual walk-a-thons for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Y-Me Race for Breast Cancer.
Although raised by a predominantly Democratic family, Ms. Crate’s commitment to conservative Republican values began as a teen-ager, when her first used car had only AM radio— serendipitously causing her to become a regular listener of Rush Limbaugh during the first year of his radio program. During her college years, she heartily accepted her role as a political anomaly among Chicago’s liberal masses. Throughout her adult life, Ms. Crate has remained active in the Republican party, serving as a Judge of Elections in 2000-2001 and as an envelope-stuffer for the 2004 Jim Ryan campaign. As CRWN’s Book Club Chairman, Ms. Crate delights in the camaraderie of fellow Republicans.
The picture of good health, Ms. Crate practices what she preaches— teaching fitness classes, resistance training, running, dancing, tumbling, flying trapeze, and skating. Her intention is to fill the United States with more happy, sprightly people who wake up with energy and go to bed feeling content.
